Functions

The department integrates the recurrent and capital budgets within a short- and medium-term expenditure and planning frameworks. Its functions include national budget formulation, budget implementation monitoring and control, national budget policy and systems, medium term expenditure framework, and budget implementation, monitoring and controls, and production of monthly, quarterly, and annual fiscal statistics. The department is also responsible for fiscal decentralisation as a service to local government institutions.
