Functions
The Department links the Ministry with the Private
Sector and coordinates government’s financial sector
policies together with other key stakeholders. Its
functions include:
- Private sector development activities;
- Coordination of financial sector schemes such as
pensions, insurance, property management, national
housing finance and capital markets;
- Provision of Government employee benefit schemes,
vehicle finance, medical aid schemes, pensions, and
advances;
- Provision of National Assembly members’ benefit
schemes;
- Cash transfers to the public, e.g. old age/African
Pioneer corps pension schemes and compensation;
- Performance monitoring of special funds, parastatals
and privatised companies;
- Promotion of public private partnerships in government
procurement
- Promotion of measures against money laundering; and
- Management of government assets and liabilities
including asset control and disposal, loss recovery, GOL
property management, management of GOL Purchasing and
Supplies, GOL transport and fuel management, procurement
policy advice, and procurement cadre management.
